Chania, capital of the prefecture of the same name and with 60.000 inhabitants Crete’s second biggest town, is proudly presented as the island’s most atmospheric city. It is a great place for going out and enjoying the good life, with lots of shops to browse and excellent restaurants. Traces of its Venetian and Turkish past, with little fountains and elegant mansions, mosques and minarets are evident everywhere as you walk through the picturesque alleys and the harbour. Along with beautifully restored buildings, there are also still un-reconstructed buildings from Second War bombings that have been turned into charming shops and restaurants. One has to admit that Chania carries its past with dignity, breathing an air of oriental mix where East meets West.

Room 101 is directly above the reception area and the floor above the sleeping area is just wood (no sound proofing), so even the smallest noise from below or above causes disturbance. We left after 1 night (originally booked 5). Cristina was very obliging in trying to find us an alternative room but we had already decided that Hotel Fortino was just not for us. | 3 |

With sea view and the mmost beautiful views of the Lefka Ori. Christina was extremely helpful with car and taxa reservations. Not to mention all the good restaurants she recommended to us. Plus her true hospitality and helpfulness. Super place. The onlu minus was when we arrived home late Saturday evening and discoved that we were in the middle of the "14-18 yrs meeting/party zone" in town. Unica pecca la doccia in bagno davvero minuscola e chiusa solo con una tenda che si allaga tutto il bagno. Anche la vista non ? gran che, sui palazzi vicini.
